Based on the 1944 novel by Anna Seghers, director Christian Petzold takes all the elements of surviving in Nazi-occupied France and transfers them in to a modern day and equally treacherous setting. Georg (Franz Rogowski) is forced to flee from Paris after German invasion and find himself in Marseille where he assumes the identity of a dead author whose papers he possesses. He meets and falls in love with the mysterious Marie, and pleads with her to escape with him. Exploring the nature of identity and betrayal, Transit creates moments of clarity in a world full of confusion and disconnect.
