The Eagle has Landed: The Flight of Apollo 11
Illustrated Talk by Anthony Southwell
Tuesday 9th July 7:00pm
50 years ago on 20th July 1969, some 240,000 miles away from the Earth, for the first time in history, humans set foot on another celestial body.
The flight of Apollo 11 must be regarded as one of the most pivotal points in human history.
In this lecture Anthony Southwell, from Derby and District Astronomical Society will outline, not only the flight of Apollo 11, but the circumstances that brought it into being, the organisation, the people and the machines needed so that Mankind could make that 'One Giant Leap.'
So go back 50 years in time with Anthony, back to the Moon and back to Tranquility Base.
This event is part of a series of talks relating to Megan Broadmeadow’s exhibition SEEK PRAY ADVANCE in QUAD Gallery. Also screening at QUAD is the documentary film ‘Apollo 11’.
