COLLATERAL ECHOES at QUAD 

We are looking for a team of friendly and enthusiastic volunteers to support COLLATERAL ECHOES, a major solo exhibition by Baff Akoto at QUAD Gallery, Derby. 

Opening on Saturday 26 September 2026, COLLATERAL ECHOES combines XR, moving image and immersive sound to present first-person testimonies, archival imagery and performance. The exhibition explores memory, grief, justice and the experiences of Black and immigrant Britons affected by deaths following police contact since 1969.

As a volunteer, you will: 

  • Welcome visitors and invigilate the exhibition 

  • Engage with visitors and support their experience 

  • Create a welcoming space for reflection and dialogue 

  • Support exhibition related talks, workshops and public programmes 

  • Help to capture visitors' responses to the exhibition and support audience evaluation 

  • Gain skills and experience you can use to build your CV 

Volunteering offers an opportunity to: 

  • Build confidence in engaging with a wide range of people 

  • Gain experience within the arts and cultural sector 

  • Develop communication, facilitation and audience engagement skills 

  • Be part of an important and thought-provoking exhibition 

We ask that volunteers: 

  • Attend a training session at QUAD from 2.00–5.00pm on Friday 25 September 

  • Commit to at least 4 - 5 volunteer shifts during the exhibition. 

  • Be available for priority dates where possible, including the exhibition launch on Saturday 26 September (additional priority dates to be confirmed). 

We offer Volunteers  

  • Hands-on experience in a leading cultural venue 

  • Free Cinema tickets  

  • and up to £4.00 per day towards travel costs.
