Raw and smoldering, Bablyon follows a young reggae DJ (Brinsley Forde, frontman of landmark group Aswad) in Thatcher-era Brixton as he pursues his musical ambitions, battling fiercely against the racism and xenophobia of employers, neighbors, police, and the National Front. Written by Martin Stellman (Quadrophenia) and shot by two-time Oscar® winner Chris Menges (The Killing Fields), Babylon is fearless and unsentimental, and set to a blistering reggae, dub, and lovers rock soundtrack featuring Aswad, Johnny Clarke, and more, anchored by legendary producer Dennis Bovell’s (The Slits) atmospheric score.

+ Reggae Bossa Boogie DJ Night

Following the Babylon screening, the longest established Derbados DJ’s will take to the wheels of steel selecting ‘vital vinyl’ & maybe even cassette exclusives! reflecting what many experts & non experts view, as Reggae’s golden era - the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s. Join reggae soundsystem supa - Wesley ‘Wings’ Davison & Devon DC Daley, who’ll be reuniting after initial connections on Derby’s sound system circuit spinning reggae / soul 70’s and then in the 80’s - underpinning the DJ presenters on the double Sony Gold award winning radio show ‘Barbed Wireless’ show sessions alongside radio show ring master, Manchurian turned Derbian - Terry Christian. Expect to hear Devon reflections on the perhaps surprising locations he’s visited & heard reggae rumbling Babylon film style ‘wardrobe’ speakers - large & small !… Nepal ! a little .. Brazil - a lot of! ( hence the ‘Bossa’ in the event title:) listen out for am amazing album play thru of Reggae / Bossa rhythms you’ll find impossible to remain still …see the film - then hang out at the Reggae Bossa Boogie ! ( in case you’ve not yet been any of the Binary Christmas / Easter Boogie (s) … prepare to be sonically bossed :)
