Mark Norman – Paranormal Simpsons

Fri 26 Feb 2027

A couple of years ago, popular folklorist and author Mark Norman decided to go off-piste with an examination of the real world mythology and folklore in Scooby-Doo. The book ended up in the Top 10 of the TV history charts in both the US and the UK, made a slightly bizarre space for the author in the Scooby fandom and turned out to be way too much fun to write. So ... why stop at one fandom? In Mark's latest pop culture foray, he ventures into the yellow world of Springfield to turn his attention to representations of the paranormal in The Simpsons.

The time round, Mark is joined by co-author Murray Ferguson - film critic and commentator and one of the key scriptwriters behind the million-plus subscribed YouTube channel The Simpsons Theory. The pair managed to persuade  Simpsons writers and showrunners to grant them inside-intel into the writing room experiences, adding an extra dimension to their research.

At UKGSF, join Mark for a no-expenses paid trip to Springfield for a look at the influences of ghosts, monsters, aliens, treehouses of horror and, most likely, donuts.

Mmmmm .... donuts.
