This July sees the first run of Hot Goth Summer, a weekend festival of the Gothic presenting a wide range of activities over three days at the city’s popular QUAD venue. Made possible by support from Derby Dracula and Aspect, the 3rd to the 5th July is going to be an essential stop for anyone with an interest in the darker side!

The Dracula’s Bazaar market will be a lynchpin of the event, running for free across all three days and featuring a wide range of stalls selling a range of clothing, accessories, stickers, craft items and much more! The first floor of QUAD will be completely taken over with Dracula’s Bazaar, making it a one-stop Gothic shop.

Throughout the weekend QUAD will also be hosting the Hot Goth Summer Film Festival, taking in some of the very best vampire films ever made, including Interview with the Vampire, Dracula: Prince of DarknessThe Lost BoysThe HungerSalem’s Lot and The Lair of the White Worm. Weekend film passes are available, as well as tickets for individual screenings throughout.

There will also be a range of free events on top of this over the three days, including the family trail around QUAD, our children’s colouring competition, the Hot Goth Summer Film Quiz, the Dances with Darkness disco night and more. This will be accompanied by a series of ticketed talks and workshops throughout, taking in art and craft, writing and more.

Professor Matthew Cheeseman, Professor of Writing and Folklore at the University of Derby and Director of the The Derby Dracula Enterprise, said: ‘Dracula belongs to Derby. With Hot Goth Summer, the city is throwing him a party, three days at QUAD for everyone drawn to the dark, from families by day to goths by night. Come see a film, learn about the connection and visit the traders at the Bazaar!’

Adam J Marsh, Head of Film at QUAD, said “What a wonderful chance to see some of the best vampire films ever made on the big screen. Christopher Lee in all his vampiric glory, the effortlessly cool David Bowie and the ultimate summer vampire movie The Lost Boys. Also, you don’t have to go to far-flung Transylvania or sun-drenched Santa Cruz when you can get vampires right here with Ken Russell’s Peak District shot Lair Of The White Worm.”
