From artist and filmmaker Baff Akoto, COLLATERAL ECHOES is a solo exhibition which commemorates the potential, personalities and memories of Black and immigrant Britons disproportionately killed after police contact since 1969.
COLLATERAL ECHOES combines XR, moving image and immersive sound design to present first-person testimonies, archival imagery and performance. Including spoken prose from Paapa Essiedu and poetry by the late, great Benjamin Zephaniah, the exhibition memorialises those killed - and gives voice to the communities who survive them - in this exploration of nostalgia, loss, grief and joy.

They also highlight deeply personal experiences of lives that are often overlooked. I hope this exhibition will provide an important space for reflection, whilst also inspiring people to shape better futures."
The exhibition will launch in Derby QUAD’s Gallery on 26th September at 12 noon followed by speeches from Baff Akoto, QUAD CEO Eleanor Thornley and Exhibition Curator Jodi Kwok followed by an artist tour beginning at 1pm.

Bringing together film, sound and installation, the exhibition creates a poignant space for remembrance, dialogue and reflection, encouraging audiences to consider how memory shapes audiences' understanding of justice, belonging and our collective future.”
The Exhibition is open from 12 noon Thursday to Sunday following the launch on 26th September and is free to visit; no booking required.
COLLATERAL ECHOES is produced by Recurring Dreams, supported by BFI Doc Society Fund, awarding National Lottery Funding, and Ford Foundation. With additional support from Birmingham Open Media, Black Public Media and United Friends and Family Campaign.

The evolving show is set to travel across the UK including John Hansard Gallery Southampton (Feb 2028- May 2028), Wales Millennium Centre (Cardiff)( Oct-Nov 2028) and Birmingham Open Media (Birmingham) (2028/29 date TBC).
