Its our Birthday month here at QUAD, and we have an exciting programme of event film screenings, activities & a new gallery launch. Here's the breakdown:

 

18th Birthday

QUAD turns 18! Yes, we can now be admitted into any film of our choice. Save the date: Saturday 26th September and come and join us for our birthday celebrations!

The building will be buzzing with activity from an exhibition launch, free family activities, a pop-up Bluebell Dairy ice cream stand and film poster sale, to name a few; not to mention Birthday cupcakes. Booking is not required; the day is free and open to all. We hope you will come and celebrate with us!

 

SPOTLIGHT: Jurassic Park 35mm Screenings

Return to Jurassic Park but see it the way it was originally projected in 1993. After a successful run of The Odyssey in 35mm, were excited to begin hosting more films on film!

From 4th September, we will have the film print in our projection booth ready to illuminate our screens at 24 frames per second, bringing the magic alive and taking you back to the prehistoric park.

Doctor Who - The Movie + Q&A (12A)

Its New Year's Eve 1999 at the turn of the millennium. The Doctor is forced to make an emergency landing in San Franciscos Chinatown. After exiting the TARDIS, the Doctor is shot by a gang and regenerates into the 8th Doctor. The newly-regenerated Doctor takes on the Master, his arch-nemesis.

This special screening of the 4K restoration is accompanied by guest speakers Paul Vanezis and Mark Ayres, two of the team behind the 4K remastering for the movie's 30th anniversary release.

Well Dressed Reels And Rituals - The Death Of Robin Hood + Q&A (15)

Well Dressed present a special Q&A screening of this dark reimagining of the folk hero.

Michael Sarnoskis film adapts the 17th century folk ballad, Robin Hoods Death, with a cast led by Hugh Jackman, Jodie Comer and Bill Skarsgård. Grappling with his violent past, Robin Hood finds himself gravely injured after a battle that he thought would be his last. He soon gets a chance at salvation when he meets a mysterious woman and a young girl.

+ A conversation with Jim Ghedi

Following the film screening, we will be joined by Jim Ghedi, the original score composer for The Death Of Robin Hood.

Sheffield-based alternative folk musician Jim Ghedi will be joining us for a post-screening Q&A to discuss his work as the original score composer for this new take on Nottingham's outlaw.

90s Sci-Fi-A-Go-Go  (15)

On Saturday 12 September, QUAD is going back to the 90s for a day putting four science-fiction classics back on the big screen.

Space 1999: Breakaway Day Double Bill (PG)

If you fancy even more Sci-Fi, the Breakaway Day double bill combines the groundbreaking first episode, Breakaway, and the acclaimed second-season opener, Metamorph of the spectacular Space 1999 TV show.

Making their worldwide debut in stunning 4K UHD, both episodes have been meticulously restored from the best surviving film elements in collaboration with leading restoration specialists. Presented with breathtaking picture quality and enhanced audio options including the original mono soundtrack and a newly remixed 5.1 surround sound experience, this is Space: 1999 as it has never been seen or heard before.

 

Pulp: What Do You Do For An Encore? (12A)

Charting the Sheffield bands extraordinary journey from obscurity to cultural touchstone. Fusing footage from Pulps biggest ever arena show – part of the global tour for More, the bands first album in 24 years – with four decades of colourful, never-seen-before archival material.

The 7:15pm screening on Friday 18 September includes a live satellite Q&A with Pulps Jarvis Cocker and director Garth Jennings.

Babylon + Reggae Bossa Boogie DJ Night (15)

Raw and smouldering, Babylon follows a young reggae DJ (Brinsley Forde, frontman of landmark group Aswad) in Thatcher-era Brixton as he pursues his musical ambitions, battling fiercely against the racism and xenophobia of employers, neighbours, police, and the National Front. Written by Martin Stellman (Quadrophenia) and shot by two-time Oscar® winner Chris Menges (The Killing Fields), Babylon is fearless and unsentimental, and set to a blistering reggae, dub, and lovers rock soundtrack featuring Aswad, Johnny Clarke, and more, anchored by legendary producer Dennis Bovells (The Slits) atmospheric score.

Following the Babylon screening, the longest established Derbados DJs will take to the wheels of steel, selecting vital vinyl& maybe even cassette exclusives! Reflecting what many experts & non-experts view as Reggaes golden era - the 60s, 70s & 80s. Join reggae soundsystem supa - Wesley WingsDavison & Devon DC Daley, wholl be reuniting after initial connections on Derbys sound system circuit spinning reggae/soul 70s and then in the 80s - underpinning the DJ presenters on the double Sony Gold award-winning radio show Barbed Wirelessshow sessions alongside radio show ring master, Manchurian turned Derbian - Terry Christian. Expect to hear Devons reflections on the perhaps surprising locations hes visited & heard reggae rumbling Babylon film style wardrobespeakers - large & small !… Nepal ! a little .. Brazil - a lot of! COLLATERAL ECHOES Launch

Join us on 26th September for the launch of COLLATERAL ECHOES, a solo Exhibition by Artist and Filmmaker Baff Akoto.


COLLATERAL ECHOES is a solo exhibition by Baff Akoto at QUAD Gallery, Derby, opening Saturday 26 September 2026. Combining XR, moving image and immersive sound, the exhibition presents first-person testimonies, archival imagery and performance to explore memory, grief, justice and the experiences of Black and immigrant Britons affected by deaths following police contact since 1969.

Edge-Lit makes it a dozen with its return in 2026, once again serving up a wide array of interviews, talks, workshops and more for lovers of genre fiction. Well be serving up information and inspiration to help writers along, insight for readers into how authors go about developing their work and plenty of opportunity to socialise with fellow fans of horror, fantasy and science-fiction!

Young Advocates

If you are aged 16-19 and are interested in creative projects, learning new skills and gaining experience in the cultural industries, join us at QUAD to meet other like-minded young people who would like to advocate for youth.

QUADs Young Advocates are a group of young decision makers and reviewers who work with staff and artists to plan new projects and explore ways to elevate creative young voices to promote QUADs programme to other young people

Snacks and drinks are provided at these sessions, and Young Advocates participants also receive 10% off in our Cafe Bar

Free Trent Barton bus travel to meetings available on request.

Hours are flexible, depending on your availability. No previous experience is required. Training and support will be provided.
