Part of Architecture On Film Weekend
Talking Heads frontman David Byrne stepped behind the camera for this absurdist tale of a small fictional Texan town and it’s inhabitants. Weaving tabloid tales, musical numbers, economics and urbanism, Byrne sets the scene as an eccentric urban-geographer as the film delights in big box architecture, corporate civic pride, freeways, shopping malls and leap-frog urbanism.
Bringing to life an eccentric cast of characters collected from sensational true stories he had collected over the years, Byrne brings to life – the laziest woman in the world who never gets out of bed, a paranoid preacher whose gospel songs are directed at governmental corruption rather than God, and a lovelorn country singer (John Goodman) on a desperate search for a partner. All set to several Talking Heads compositions sung by the characters in the film.
Join us in the Bar before and after the film as we will be spending the night exploring the back catalogue of Talking Heads and more.
