This autumn across QUAD’s gallery spaces we present a series of free to enter exhibitions that showcase the breadth of QUAD’s visual arts and creative learning offer. In Gallery 1 is the community-focused heritage project Dancing Through Time: Were You There? that continues a project that celebrates the rich history of Derby’s dance, music and club scenes from the early 1960s to the early 1980s. In Gallery 2 we present an autumnal version of the interactive activity space Play & Display where playfulness is encouraged, and where you, and your creations, become part of the exhibition! Exhibitions in Gallery 1 and 2 start from 28 September and continue to 24 November 2024. In the Extra Gallery Spaces, we present the exhibition Towards a New Monomyth by digital artist Petra Szemán which introduces the viewer to animation and game-like landscapes using a virtual version of them as protagonists.
QUAD’s Autumn Exhibitions Season is part of New Worlds, New Discoveries – a year-long theme that acts as a framework for QUAD’s visual arts programme that is linked to and inspired by the previous year theme of ‘Worldbuilding’. Drawing on QUAD’s programme of activities, the main narrative arc for New Worlds, New Discoveries seeks to explore facets of our new – or existing – world about us to uncover and understand new ideas, new experiences and new ways of understanding. New Worlds, New Discoveries also sits alongside QUAD’s ongoing cinema and film programme, New Worlds of Cinema.
