Part of Dancing Through Time
QUAD and Déda are delighted to be offering an exciting new workshop as part of the Dancing Through Time heritage project.
Join award winning artist Katherina Radeva at QUAD to explore the link between dancing and joy. This workshop is open to all – you do not need to have prior dancing experience but you do need to be open to letting loose and moving your body. Using tracks from popular music and some slightly niche sounds, Katherina will guide you through a journey of movement, childhood memories and what we need to do to give ourselves the permission to experience joy.
Dancing Through Time: from Pop to Punk in the City of Derby is an exciting new heritage project, made possible thanks to funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, which will explore the social clubs, dance clubs, dance movements and music scenes in Derby from the 1960s to the late 1970s. As part of this project, we will be running various talks, workshops and events which not only explore the heritage of this time but the significance of the elements that inspired and were inspired by the scene such as dance, fashion and popular culture.
Free Entry but booking required.
Katherina’s solo performance 40/40 is taking place at Deda, Derby on Tuesday 5 March. 40/40 is an inspiring, insightful and moving celebration of Katherina Radeva’s 40 years as a woman, a migrant and an artist. Claiming space on a dance floor for one, she writes stories of her past, present and future, in speech, in electrical tape and in movement.
From the little girl dancing at her parents’ student parties, to the teenage rhythm gymnast who was body-shamed, to the creative who refuses to be categorised we see a choreography of all the joys and sorrows of 40 years. Radeva is an irresistible performer whose authenticity and generosity shines in this life-affirming piece.
Supported by three brilliant female choreographers – Liz Aggiss, Lucy Suggate and Rachel Krische, Katherina’s 40/40 is the result of 40 years of joy, migrancy and hardship, laughter and tears, super tunes and super moves. Join the middle-aged woman revolution by dancing, claiming and reclaiming the beautiful, glorious and messy complexities of womanhood.
