Ko (Chow Yun-Fat) is an undercover cop on one last job, assigned to infiltrate a gang of jewel thieves committing armed robberies across Hong Kong. When another police officer is killed in the line of duty during one of the gang’s heists, Ko finds himself caught in the crossfire between the police force desperate to catch the culprits at any cost, and the trigger-happy thieves who begin to smell a rat in their midst. As the bullets fly and the body count rises, Ko’s only hope for survival might be his burgeoning friendship with weary gang member Fu…
Chow Yun-Fat’s role cemented his place as Hong Kong’s late-80s king of action movie cool as first established in John Woo’s 1986 film A Better Tomorrow, and the film features Danny Lee, Carrie Ng and Yueh Sun in supporting roles. City On Fire proved to be a hugely influential title on late 20th century action cinema worldwide, with Quentin Tarantino acknowledging that he took direct inspiration from the film for a number of sequences in his legendary debut feature Reservoir Dogs. QUAD’s screenings will feature a stunning new 4K version of the film, restored from the original camera negative.
The screening on the evening of Friday 21 November will include an introduction by Satori Screen’s Peter Munford.
