Corridors Commission

LEVEL and Derby QUAD are pleased to announce a joint commission and exhibition opportunity for a *neurodivergent artist or collective based in the East Midlands.

This opportunity will include a £1500 commission fee, plus an exhibition at LEVEL from April – June 2024 and at QUAD July – September 2024.

The brief for this opportunity is open to interpretation. We do not expect artists to produce proposals or work based on their or others neurodivergent condition, rather we are keen to understand the breadth of art making being undertaken in the East Midlands today. Both exhibitions at LEVEL and then Derby QUAD will take place in their corridors/ public areas. We are looking for wall based work or work that can go on digital screens. Work must be suitable for audiences including families and young people.

How to submit information can be found here  and Equal Ops form here

Please send us:

  • CV (Written submission up to 2 sides of A4 / Video or Audio submission up to three minutes long)

  • Upload any additional supporting material (optional) – links to websites, social media or reviews.

We are aware of potential barriers *neurodivergent people may experience making applications. We welcome suggestions on best ways for applicants to submit to the opportunity. We want to make sure that this opportunity is accessible for everyone. If you have any questions, or need support to complete your application, please get in touch.

Entries and questions can be emailed to: programme@derbyquad.co.uk

Eligibility criteria: This opportunity is open to *neurodivergent artists or collectives currently based in the East Midlands. *Neurodivergent refers to individuals whose neurological development and functioning differ from what is considered typical or “neurotypical.” This includes conditions such as autism, ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), dyslexia, and others. We include anyone who identifies as being neurodiverse/neurodivergent. We recognise that many people with personal lived experience of disability do not identify as such.

Opportunity: This opportunity will include a £1500 commission fee, plus an exhibition at LEVEL from April – June 2024 and at Derby QUAD July – September 2024. The selected artist or collective will be able to access mentoring support from both organisations, plus optional time in the Derby QUAD dedicated artist studio or LEVEL centre’s art block.

This project was only made possible thanks to support from Arts Council England and Derby City Council.

Deadline: 6pm Friday 26 January 2024.
