FORMAT17 launched on 23rd March and the festival took place between 24 Mar – 23 Apr 2017.

The festival, established in 2004, is now the UK’s largest international biennale of contemporary photography with a year round programme in the UK and Internationally plus a yearly International Photography Portfolio Review.

Curated around the theme of HABITAT the festival celebrated a broad range of photography in over 30 of Derby’s most beautiful buildings and key landmarks. FORMAT is the place to engage with an incredible range of new work together alongside some of the world’s leading artists. In 2017 we invited you to contribute to and participate in, the best of what photography is and can be.

FORMAT is Directed by Louise Clements, organised by QUAD and the University of Derby.
