Artist Biographies:

Deacon Lui is an artist who explores identity, social justice, and displacement through photography. He was born in Hong Kong, where he graduated from BA (Hons) Sociology at Hong Kong Baptist University. Following that, he graduated from MA Documentary Photography and Photojournalism at the London College of Communication. Since relocating to London in 2022, Deacon’s work has evolved to question the boundaries of documentary image-making. He experiments with alternative photography and printing processes to explore the representation of marginality, forced displacement, and social alienation. His recent works seek to capture the essence of human resilience and resistance in the face of social changes and adversity.

After extensively exploring visual arts at Ritsumeikan University’s College of Image Arts and Sciences, he is now advancing his research and creation at the University for the Creative Arts in the MFA Photography program. His work delves deeply into the relationship between images and humans within the context of Post Photography, utilizing photographs as a medium and transforming them into sculptures with the aid of modern technologies, specifically AI and 3D printers.

Melanie King is a working class artist and curator, originally from Manchester, UK. Melanie is now based in Kent, UK. She is co-Director of super/collider, Lumen Studios and founder of the London Alternative Photography Collective. Melanie is Lecturer In Photography at Canterbury Christ Church University, and a practice-based PhD Candidate at the Royal College of Art. She is the Interim Chair of the Royal College of Art, Working Class Collective. She is represented by the Land Art Agency.

Melanie is interested in the relationship between the environment, photography and materiality. Melanie intends to highlight the intimate connection between photographic materials and the natural world. Melanie is currently researching several sustainable photographic processes, to minimise the environmental impact of her artistic practice.
