Satori Screen presents a special double bill on QUAD’s largest screen of two Hong Kong action movie classics, from acclaimed director John Woo (Hard Boiled / Face-Off).
A Better Tomorrow (18)
1986 Hong Kong Dir: John Woo 95 mins
Two friends, Ho (Ti Lung) and Mark (Chow Yun-Fat), are triads in a counterfeiting operation who end up doing ‘one more job’ and what do you know, this one more job gets messier than they had hoped… John Woo’s film birthed a whole new sub-genre of action film – heroic bloodshed – and launched Chow Yun-Fat as a cool-as-ice as an action movie megastar.
Bullet In The Head (18)
1991 Hong Kong Dir: John Woo 131 mins.
Set during the Vietnam war, the film follows B, Fai and Wing (iconic actors Tony Leung Chiu-Wai, Jacky Cheung and Waise Lee), three best friends fleeing from Hong Kong to seek their fortune as smugglers. In Saigon, they join forces with fellow expat Lok (Simon Yam) and double-cross the ruthless gangster Luong to steal his gold and rescue nightclub singer Sau-ching (Yolinda Yan) from his clutches. The gang must fight their way out of the country in a nightmarish odyssey where each new battle pushes them beyond their limits and threatens to destroy their friendship.
Combining the gravity of Apocalypse Now with the spectacular action of Woo’s earlier films, Bullet in the Head is an uncompromising look at the ravages of war where ideals of brotherhood and comradeship disintegrate into greed and cruelty in a storm of bullets and blood.
Tickets: £15 (standard) £13 (concessions)
