Objects of Delight

This exhibition marked the climax of a nine month project in which fourteen older members of the Derby community researched and discussed contemporary art, many for the first time, and selected a stunning art exhibition from the Arts Council Collection. The exhibition was officially opened by distinguished broadcaster, writer and advocate of Older People; Dame Joan Bakewell.

The works chosen dated from 1929 to 2003 and included sculpture and painting by artists including:

John Bratby
Edward Burra
Patrick Caulfield
Anya Gallaccio
Charles Ginner
Duncan Grant
Siobhan Hapaska
David Hockney
Shirazeh Houshiary
Ken Kiff
Joanna Kirk
Peter Lanyon
L.S Lowry
William Nicholson
Winifred Nicholson
Grayson Perry
Bryan Wynter

The curators brought many combined years of experience and a wealth of expertise and enthusiasm for the arts to the project. As part of the process they travelled to art stores in London and Yorkshire to view the collection and make their final decisions.

The exhibition’s lead curator was Jane Bevan.
