Part of Dancing Through Time
Our National Lottery funded Heritage project Dancing Through Time is seeking three participants on a first come first served basis to join us for an Oral History training workshop in October 2024 in Manchester.
This workshop is for anyone who might like to develop valuable skills that will enhance work on Dancing Through Time project (more details below) and further advance any personal interests in heritage and archive collection. The training will introduce practical techniques about how to conduct an oral history interview as well as developing your critical thinking skills about archives and how they can be used to create contemporary meaning. Participants are invited to assist in oral history interviews which will be a part of the Dancing Through Time online archive.
The workshop will be provided by Oral History Journal Editor Dr Lucy Newby, Lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University, Manchester Centre for Youth Studies. ‘Oral history’ is the collection and study of historical information about people, families, important events, or everyday life using audiotapes, videotapes, or transcripts of planned interviews.
The selected volunteers will be travelling to Manchester with Dancing Through Time Project Coordinator Ocean Farini and FORMAT Coordinator Jenna Eady. Travel bursaries and expenses will be provided to each participant by QUAD/FORMAT, courtesy of the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Email info@formatfestival.co.uk with the subject line ‘Oral History Training Workshop’ before 19th September to secure your place.
