Zoom Online Talk: Seema Mattu in conversation with Mithran R.Talitha Samuel

Join us for a fascinating and insightful talk by current QUAD exhibiting artist Seema Mattu in conversation with Mithran R.Talitha Samuel.

This virtual talk will explore The Scrawny Beauties of Ethni City – Seema Mattu’s first solo exhibition, and a deep dive into SEEMAWORLD – an immersive, multi-channel realm and future streaming facility. With a specific interest in lo-fi high fantasy storytelling, SEEMAWORLD is framed as a theme park and explores systems of caste, queer sorcery, fan labour and how gender is classified through digital technologies. Through mixed-media animation, IRL (In Real Life) environment-building, audience interactivity, audio installations, visual spectacle and trickster vibes, The Scrawny Beauties of Ethni City embarks on the origins of SEEMAWORLD’s ongoing, unfolding caste-centric narrative, Engodamy.

This is an online event. After booking you will receive a booking confirmation email immediately and then a further email with Zoom information within the next 24 hours. Please check spam folders if necessary.

Artist and Speaker Bio:

Seema Mattu is a Valmiki world-building trickster, whose multi-channel practice is framed as a theme park – known as SEEMAWORLD. Through the playfulness of intersecting amenities and services, visitors are prompted to portal around a unifying setting weaved by Seema’s own multi-minority personhood.

Mithran R.Talitha Samuel is a cultural producer & editor based in New Delhi, India. His written work – essays, reported features, and art criticism – has been in publications at home and abroad. Clear Blue Skies S1: Experiencing Ambedkar – the first iteration of his anti-caste & radical theory podcast featured only guest experts from caste-oppressed communities, as both pedagogical tool and journalistic principle. Now, through the larger project of CBS Productions, he’s expanding his practice into mixed media collaging and experimental research-based narrative soundscapes.
