“François Truffaut is drunk on the possibilities of cinema in this, his most playful film” – The Criterion Collection
François Truffaut’s sophomore outing Shoot The Piano Player follows up on the stellar debut of The 400 Blows with a tale of mild-mannered piano player Charlie (singer-songwriter Charles Aznavour) as he stumbles into the criminal underworld and a whirlwind love affair. Gags, guns, clowns and thug, this is a razor-sharp homage to the American gangster film, and a distillation of the French New Wave.
This is a QUAD Essentials screening and features an introduction and a post-screening discussion.
