Art Bytes Virtual School Exhibition 2022

QUAD is delighted to be the East Midlands host venue for the Art Bytes Virtual School Exhibition 2022, which launched on Thursday 16 June with an awards event, attended by Julia Johnson (Art Bytes Project Coordinator), Daisy Lloyd (QUAD Education Curator), Ashok Venkatesh (QUAD Board member), and students, staff and families from competing East Midlands schools.

Art Bytes is an Education Technology (EdTech) programme that integrates art with technology and redefines traditional art education. Designed with creative immersive technology specialists, Art Bytes utilises a bespoke, immersive, virtual gallery incorporating augmented reality elements to give young participants the opportunity to see their art exhibited online in a cutting-edge virtual gallery and engage with new technology, from the safety and convenience of their own home or school. It also allows children and young people to see galleries as places ‘for them’ and encourage future cultural engagement.

QUAD Education Curator, Daisy Lloyd, commented “We provide lots of creative opportunities for young people, which is really important to everyone here at QUAD, as we really value supporting young people in the community to experience creative opportunities, and any chance to celebrate their amazing talent and shout about it is a privilege for us! Creativity is such a valuable skill, and Art Bytes gives schools and young people a great opportunity to showcase it on a national and international platform, and raise the confidence and cultural capital of participants through the process. There is some exceptional talent on display in this exhibition, and we are honoured to have been asked to be the East Midlands host venue.”

The national and regional winners and runner-ups were announced, and certificates were handed out at QUAD.

The Regional Winner for East Midlands was: Trae Gillan from Oakwood Junior School for Kusama Self Portrait. (who also achieved 1st place in his school)

The other East Midlands entries who placed first in their schools:
Amelia Olzsynova from Cavendish Close Junior Academy for Men Of The Docks Soundscape
Amelia Wilson from Fairfield Spencer Academy for The Saxon Cross, Stapleford

Huge congratulations to the winning entries, both in the East Midlands and nationally.
