BFI Film Academy SCENE: QUAD presents Midlands Short Film Club is a special screening and networking event dedicated to showcasing and celebrating the incredible work of filmmakers from the Midlands who have received support from the BFI NETWORK Short Film Fund.

QUAD is very excited to be screening five short films, produced by some of the best creative talent from the region, here in Derby, and are delighted to welcome the remarkable filmmakers behind them for a panel discussion and Q&A afterwards.

Providing opportunities for those of all ages who are passionate about film to experience and discuss film in a supported environment is extremely important to us at QUAD. Through our Education Programme, we have been focusing on ensuring that young filmmakers from Derby can not only learn the practical skills required to produce films but also meet people who have been on the same journey as them.

Chris Bevan, Derby-based filmmaker and BFI Film Academy Short Course leader at QUAD said:

“Hosting the Midlands Short Film Club provides education and networking opportunities for our current BFI Film Academy short course students, and also offers a chance for film enthusiasts and filmmakers of all experience levels from Derby and beyond to be inspired, entertained and meet like-minded individuals who are passionate about cinema. This kind of event is really important for the cultural scene in our city and I’m very proud to be a part of it.”

BFI Film Academy SCENE: QUAD presents Midlands Short Film Club will screen:
Hope Ain’t Right (dir. Dan Shaw)
Lord of the Free Range (dir. Simon Dymond)
Rushed (dir. Nadine O’Mahony)
Results Day (dir. Omari McCarthy)
Blind Spot (dir. Soph Webberley)

Lauren Parker, BFI Network Talent Executive at Film Hub Midlands said:

“We’re really looking forward to showcasing some of the shorts supported by Film Hub Midlands on the big screen where they belong. As well as having the opportunity to introduce the talented directors behind the films to BFI Film Academy participants and the wider filmmaking community in Derby. It’s really important for Midlands filmmakers to see what is being made in the region and have the chance to network with each other and for younger filmmakers to see different entry points into the industry.”
