Starting on 2 November, QUAD – Derby will be among more than 70 venues UK-wide taking part in ART OF ACTION, a thrills and spills-filled season presented by the BFI Film Audience Network (BFI FAN) thanks to BFI National Lottery funding.
ART OF ACTION choices for local audiences will include:
Saturday 2 November 8:30pm: Cult Film Club present a screening of The Warriors (15). In Walter Hill’s 1979 cult classic a charismatic gang leader is shot at a conclave meant to unite all the gangs in New York City. A troupe from Coney Island called The Warriors get the blame and are forced to run 27 miles across the city to get back to their own turf. Along the way the group will have to fight an escalating series of battles with colourful and improbable gangs.
Between 22 – 28 November: screenings of Kathryn Bigelow’s classic action thriller Point Break (15), starring Keanu Reeves as FBI agent Johnny Utah, who goes undercover with a gang of surfers, led by Patrick Swayze’s Bodhi, who are suspects in a series of bank robberies. These screenings will be of a newly restored 4K version of the film.
Saturday 30 November from 1pm: QUAD will hold a 90s Action All-Dayer, featuring screenings of four classic action movies. Hard Target (18), starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Desperado (18), starring Antonio Banderas, Con Air (18), starring Nicolas Cage, and Under Siege (15), starring Steven Seagal.
QUAD Cinema Manager Adam Marsh says: “We’re kicking off our Art of Action season with The Warriors, a great film that deserves to be seen on the big screen with a crowd. Then we go full blast with 90s action stars! Point Break is a favourite here and I’m really excited to see Desperado on the big screen. The fun will continue in December with some more action classics as well as that Christmas tradition, Die Hard.”
