QUAD In Derby to hold first ever Godzilla-A-Go-Go, day of screenings devoted to classic Godzilla films

QUAD is delighted to announce that on Saturday 17 August 2024 the first ever Godzilla-A-Go-Go event will be held at the venue, with four classic Japanese Godzilla movies screening in their original uncut versions.

Peter Munford, QUAD Film & Marketing Officer and programmer of Satori Screen, QUAD’s monthly night devoted to East Asian cinema, said “Since starting my Satori Screen events all the way back in 2012 classic Godzilla titles have consistently been amongst the most requested titles for me to show. Due to various roadblocks this has not often been possible but having now overcome these problems I am hugely excited to be able to show four classic Godzilla titles in a single day, in what I am hoping will become an annual event.”

The films screening as follows –

Mothra Vs. Godzilla (12A) 1964 Japan Dir: Ishirō Honda

Screening Saturday 17 August at 1:00pm

Godzilla faces off against the benevolent insect monster-god Mothra in a crossover battle between two of Japan’s most popular monsters—the last in which Godzilla would figure as a malevolent villain rather than a fearsome hero.

Ghidorah, The Three Headed Monster (12A) 1964 Japan Dir: Ishirō Honda

Screening Saturday 17 August at 3:00pm

After laying waste to an alien civilization on Venus, the three-headed, lightning-emitting space monster Ghidorah brings its insatiable thirst for destruction to Earth, where fierce foes Godzilla, Rodan, and Mothra must join forces to deal with the unprecedented threat.

Destroy All Monsters  (12A) 1968 Japan Dir: Ishirō Honda

Screening Saturday 17 August at 6:00pm

Set in the remote future of 1999, when the people of Earth have achieved world peace by confining destructive creatures to Monsterland. Then an alien race intervenes, and the peace is shattered. Featuring no less than eleven classic Japanese movie monsters.

Terror Of Mechagodzilla (12A) 1975  Japan Dir Ishirō Honda

Screening Saturday 17 August at 8:15pm

Aliens retrieve Mechagodzilla’s remains and rebuild it with the aid of an unhinged biologist who has a grand plan to defeat Godzilla and take possession of planet Earth.

Godzilla-A-Go-Go takes place at QUAD on 17 August 2024 from 1pm. All films will be in Japanese with English subtitles. Tickets are now on available at QUAD’s standard ticket prices or passes can be purchased to see all four films at a reduced rate. These are priced at £30 (standard), £25 (concessions) and £18 (under 16 years old).
