The next exhibition heading to the gallery and extra gallery spaces at Derby QUAD from Thursday 25th January is ‘JOURNEY’.
JOURNEY is a collection of new artworks created by children and young people from QUAD’s Education Programmes. These include QUAD Young Advocates, QUAD Young Creatives, KidsQUAD Movie Makers, the Virtual School Young Animators, and students from QUAD’s School in Residence programme (funded by Paul Hamlyn Foundation) – including Pear Tree Community Junior School, Horizons 6th Form and Derby Moor Academy. Also involved in the creation of work were QUAD’s BFI Film Academy Short course (funded by BFI and Department for Education) and an Open Call of Derbyshire based young artists aged up to 25, selected and curated by QUAD Young Advocates.
From dedicated projects, the work explores the theme of ‘JOURNEY’ and what journey means to young people through a myriad of themes and media; personified into an exhibition like no other for QUAD.
The exhibition showcasing the work of children and young people from QUAD’s Education Programmes will take place in QUAD’s Main Gallery, with the hope that the exhibition will inspire others to be creative and take part in the organisations’ educational offerings, while providing an important platform for current participants.
Education Curator Daisy Lloyd says: We are really excited to launch this first-of-its-kind exhibition of young people’s work across QUAD’s Main Gallery and Extra Gallery Spaces! Our busy Education programme enables us to engage thousands of young people in creative learning and experiences each year, and we are passionate about supporting young people on their creative journeys, seeking ways to give them a platform wherever we can. The JOURNEY exhibition will shine a light on the breadth of our creative learning offer, and the incredibly talented young artists of Derby/shire who are exhibiting.
The exhibition will launch on Thursday 25th January and be available to explore in QUAD’s Gallery and Extra Gallery Space until Sunday 25th February, Gallery open Monday – Sunday 12:00pm – 6:00pm, Extra Gallery Spaces open Monday – Sunday 10:00am – 9:00pm.
Elsewhere in the QUAD Gallery two space, ANIMATE x QUAD Presents: Identity… will showcase moving image work by four artists: Jessica Ashman, Jake Elwes and Me the Drag Queen, and Nina Thomas, and is a collaboration between QUAD and Animate Projects. The exhibition features artists from underrepresented backgrounds, with a focus on lived experience. Works in the exhibition reference a range of themes including trauma and how this can lead to a sense of hope; how lives are shaped by a particular culture industry and workers; and the place of AI in modern society.
