To coincide with the release of Richard Linklater’s excellent Nouvelle Vague all about the making of Jean-Luc Godard’s A Bout De Souffle (Breathless), QUAD Essentials takes you back for five highlights of the New Wave.
In a movement full of auteurs, we’ve picked five distinctly different voices. First up is Francois Truffaut’s second film Shoot the Piano Player, followed by the man of the hour Jean-Luc Godard’s seismic debut A Bout De Souffle (Breathless) – both 1960. Agnes Varda’s Cleo From 9 to 5, Eric Rohmer’s My Night at Maud’s (1969) and Alain Resnais’ Hiroshima Mon Amour round out the selection.
Screening every Sunday at 1pm with an introduction and a post screening discussion.
