At QUAD this year the University of Derby’s Level 5 BA (Hons) Fine Art students present their exhibition Amuse-Bouche, offering visitors something special – a ‘little taster’ or introduction to their artistic practices. Amuse-Bouche will also be at Britannia Mill Studios, Mackworth Road, Derby from 31 May – 14 June 2024.
We have created an updated version of a traditional ‘cabinet of curiosities’, two specially constructed cages on wheels containing a collection of artworks specifically made for the Resource Area at QUAD. There are also 5 short films made for the Resource Screen by the student artists. ‘Amuse- bouche’ is the French term used for small bitesize hors d’oeuvres. Chefs serve amuse-bouche to diners to enjoy while waiting for their food orders to arrive. It is a way of saying ‘welcome’ to guests and pampering them with something special.
This student exhibition extends to a wider presentation located at Britannia Mill Studios at the University of Derby and reflects the intentions of teaching initiatives which explore different approaches to the staging of artworks and the distinct methods which artists use to engage audiences.
Amuse-Bouche serves as a welcoming gesture to visitors of QUAD, providing them with additional artworks to enjoy while waiting for their film or meeting to start, as part of their general gallery visit, or whilst having a coffee break in the café.
Curated by Caroline Locke and Craig Fisher, with special thanks to Peter Bonnell at QUAD and the Fine Art Team at the University of Derby.
