In 2003 Midlands filmmaker Shane Meadows’ reunited with his regular collaborator Paddy Considine to make a low budget thriller called Dead Man’s Shoes (18), shooting much of the film around Matlock, Derbyshire. The finished film was released in the UK on 1 October 2004 and in the twenty years since has gone on to become one of 21st century British cinema’s most enduring cult films. QUAD is excited to celebrate Dead Man’s Shoes‘ 20th anniversary with a special-one off event, featuring special guests joining us for a post-film Q+A.
Paddy Considine plays Richard, who years earlier left the rural village he and his younger brother Anthony (Toby Kebbell) grew up in to join the army. Whilst Richard was away Anthony fell under the influence of Sonny (Gary Stretch), a vicious drug dealer and his gang (played by actors including Neil Bell, Paul Hurstfield, George Newton and Stuart Wolfendine), who treated Anthony as a plaything to be toyed with for their amusement. Upon returning from the army, Richard sets out on a mission of vengeance for the gang’s treatment of his brother.
4pm screening confirmed guests: Paul Hurstfield (Mark), Neil Bell (Soz) and George Newton (Gypsy John).
7pm screening confirmed guests: Stuart Wolfenden (Herbie), Paul Hurstfield (Mark), George Newton (Gypsy John), Emily Aston (Patti).
We hope to be able to announce further guests soon.
