Workshops for Adults
06th Jul
“Truth is stranger than fiction, but it is because Fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities; Truth isn’t.” – Mark Twain
This one-day workshop will explore how real-life events can powerfully inspire writers, from an individual personal experience to an extensive global event. Looking at how fiction is able to bring artistic freedom to a real-life incident, enabling the ‘creation’ of fictional characters to tell the ‘truth’ of the story. Considering the importance/methods of drawing from accurate research, and how this can be gathered and effectively used.
The workshop will examine the popularity and success of the real-life drama for both the stage and TV/Film, looking at a variety of different shows/stories and the impact of bringing these real events to the stage/screen, creating public awareness, and opportunities for debate and change. Also looking at the responsibility of the writer in ensuring the mixing of fact and fiction is approached with sensitivity and consideration, in the interpretation and performance of these real-life inspired events.
