Part of Fright Club
Fright Club presents a double bill featuring new documentary Scala!!! about London’s famous Scala Cinema, and classic Scala title Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer.
Scala!!!
In Britain’s post-punk Thatcher years, the infamous and legendary Scala cinema showed a diverse range of films, from high art to cult classics, sexploitation, horror, Kung-Fu and LGBTQIA+. Nudging boundaries of convention, it became an inspiration for future famous creatives.
With interviews from nearly 50 contributors, previously unseen archive footage and film clips, Scala!!! is an anarchic, uproarious documentary telling the riotous inside story, with an original soundtrack by celebrated musician Barry Adamson. Transcending nostalgia, Scala!!! is a universal testament to the power of cinemas, providing refuge and community for outsiders. A place where everyone is welcome.
Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer
Widely heralded as one of the greatest serial killer movies of all time, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer presents a bleak and unflinching dive into the mind of a mass murderer.
Recently released from prison, the nomadic Henry (Michael Rooker) finds temporary abode in the rundown Chicago lodgings of a former jail acquaintance and smalltime drug dealer, Otis (Tom Towles). Hiding behind his unremarkable employment as a pest exterminator, Henry leads a double life, prowling the streets by night on a brutal and apparently motiveless killing spree. As the bodies mount up, Otis finds himself inducted into Henry’s dark secret world.
This screening will include an introduction from Fright Club’s Darrell Buxton.
Tickets: £15 (standard), £13 (concessions and QUAD members), £11 (Member concessions) & £10 (18 – 25 year olds)
