1623 and QUAD present:
Shakespeare’s White Others – An anti-racist workshop with artists, educators and learners
Friday 16 February 2024, 2:00pm – 5:00pm
BSL interpreted
Join Dr David Sterling Brown from Trinity College (Connecticut, USA), 1623 artistic director Ben Spiller and BSL interpreter Clare Edwards for activities and conversations inspired by Dr Brown’s new book Shakespeare’s White Others.
This workshop will ask how we put anti-racist theory into practice when creating, teaching or studying work based on lived experiences and Shakespeare’s plays.
We will focus on how the plays relate to our world today, specifically how our decisions as artists, creatives, educators and learners impact culture, industry, politics and society.
Activities will include engaging creatively with moments from Shakespeare’s plays, discussing them in relation to Dr Brown’s research, and pledging commitments to anti-racist practice in arts and education.
All of this will take place in a warm, welcoming and supportive environment where we will all have the opportunity to create, contribute and learn together.
Places in this workshop are free of charge to all participants. Donations welcome.
